2010 Program Highlights

Research

Published "What Do US Adults Think About Child Sexual Abuse?" a report on our national survey results that offers a unique - and sometimes surprising - glimpse into public views on child sexual abuse prevention.

Prevention Education

Distributed more prevention materials than ever, including a revised Prevent Child Sexual Abuse guidebook and new Prevention Tip Sheets, like "Talking to Children and Teens." Thousands download free materials each month and we've worked wiht our distributor, Safer Society Press, to improve online ordering.

Training

Expanded our free global webcast and training series to include research and policy issues in response to requests by professionals working to prevent violence against children.

Policy

Gained new national visibility for prevention. For example, the new Education and Prevention section of the US National Sex Offender Public Website features prevention tools and links to StopItNow.org.

Support to Communities

Joined forces with leading prevention and child-serving organizations in the US and abroad to improve community access to the skills, tools and resources needed to prevent child sexual abuse in families and communities. We are helping to guide and support the adoption of prevention programming to address child sexual abuse and combat commercial sexual exploitation through partnerships in Africa, Asia and Central/South America. We are grateful to the Oak Foundation for providing the core support that makes our international outreach and partnerships possible.

Leadership

Extended our reach through active membership in key networks - including those serving child helplines, engaging men and boys, combatting child commercial sexual exploitation, and promoting research-based sex offender treatment. In the past six months alone, Stop It Now! presented at conferences and consultations from Hawaii and New Orleans, to Rio and Madrid.

Collaboration

Formalized an agreement with the Centre for Applied Childhood Studies (CACS), University of Huddersfield (UK) on a range of projects, including a joint Ph.D. scholarship, and other research and programming in low/middle income countries. This fall we hosted visits and webcasts with CACS Director, Dr. Adele Jones, and Research Associate, Dr. Dominic Pasura.

Sharing

Strengthened ties with our sister organization, Stop it Now! UK & Ireland to provide mutual support, while raising the profile of our common approach and brand. For example, we shared input and content to support their new   ParentsProtect website.

Help to Individuals

Secured critical funding to continue providing free Help Services to all adults with specific questions or concerns about situations involving possible child sexual abuse. In 2011, with support from the US Department of Justice, Office of will deepen and diversify how we make available our unique brand of specialized support and guidance to prevent the crime of child sexual abuse.
